I've painted a lovely bluebird on  a branch with pink flowers on a ceramic bisque ornament using oil paints for the bluebird and flowers and acrylic paint for the pink background.  The ornament is 3 1/4" x 3 3/4" and is flat and 1/4" thick.  Colors in the ornament are blue, pink, orange, green, and brown.
